Glenwood, Iowa has a long and storied past, beginning with its establishment by Mormon settlers in 1848 under the name Coonsville. By 1851, it became the county seat of Mills County, and just a year later, after the Mormon migration to Utah, the community was renamed Glenwood in honor of Presbyterian minister Glenn Wood. As the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad was completed, Glenwood evolved into a bustling regional hub. Following World War II, Glenwood became a prominent meat-packing center, eventually hosting one of the largest kosher packinghouses in the Midwest. Today, the former packing facility is owned by Trajet, a whirlpool company.
