Colo, Iowa, is a town featuring a population of 845 (2020 U.S Census) residents in Story County, located in Central Iowa. Colo, like many other surrounding towns, is a part of the Ames Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town’s motto is “A place to call home”. Located near Colo is Hickory Grove Park, Story County's largest recreational, fishing, and swimming area with 445 acres, including a 98-acre (400,000 m2) lake. Hickory Grover is a great recreational area that offers public “Iowa beach” swimming areas, as well as a campground and RV park that is really cool to visit.
The surrounding nature offers great views, and can oftentimes make somebody forget they’re in Central Iowa. Blockbuster film Twister, featuring star actress Helen Hunt was actually partially filmed just outside of Colo. The town is home to multiple parks, baseball fields, softball fields, basketball courts, and small businesses along with a few great options available for food. Colo is also where Michael Fitzgerald, the longest serving state treasurer in U.S history, is originally from, graduating from Colo Community High School. Colo is located at the intersection of the historic Lincoln and Jefferson highways. The intersection is marked by the historic complex of Reed/Niland Corner, which includes a museum/diner, vintage gas station, and small park. I always thought this was a cool landmark growing up nearby, a 5-minute drive away.

Don and Carrie came over and checked out my attic after a suspected raccoon break-in. They were very professional even when a bunch of blown-in insulation rained down on them while opening the hatch to the attic. Carrie checked the attic and took pictures. Don told me that the insulation was undisturbed and looked clean. He told me that no clean-up work was required. Before leaving, they cleaned up the insulation that came down. Jeff & his team completed the restoration of our brand new home. The main floor & basement sustained water damage due to plumber's error. Contractor was interested in only patch work. Filed a claim through our homeowners insurance & SERVPRO did the rest. Extremely conscientious team, communicated options & outlined timeline. Communicated with insurance adjuster & kept us informed. They went above & beyond by sending in a cleaning crew in the middle of the project so I could complete a medically required in-home infusion!! As in any building/restoration project scheduling flexibility is a must. We are extremely happy with the plumber, drywall & painter sub contractors provided through SERVPRO, too.
