Ocilla is a small farming town in Georgia. This town was founded around 1880 and was incorporated in 1897 after it was connected by railroad to Fitzgerald. It is believed that Ocilla was named for Chief Osceola of the Seminole Tribe, who settled in this part of the state. Ocilla is known for the Georgia Sweet Potato Festival, which features a sweet potato cooking contest, sweet potato parade, and a car show that features antique automobiles, antique farm equipment and refurbished vintage and classic cars. There are also arts and craft vendors selling handmade artwork, jewelry and decorative items. For kids there is an entertainment center with face painters, games and kiddie rides. People come from all over to take part in the festivities. The city is also home to several attractions appropriate for the whole family such as museums, movie theaters, parks and wildlife areas along with restaurants and cafes. Ocilla is rich in history and most of the town’s original buildings are still standing and in use still today including hotels, apartment buildings, stores and even a Sanitarium that now serves as a home. I contacted SERVPRO to help with what we thought was just water damage. SERVPRO sent a team the house right away. Blake and Holden identified the septic tank as the source of the water intrusion. They immediately went to work once the septic tank was serviced. They did a fantastic job drying and disinfecting the house, as well as removing all contaminated materials.
