Cordele was incorporated in January of 1888 named after Colonel Samuel Hawkins, the president of Savannah, Americus and Montgomery Railway, eldest daughter named Cordelia Hawkins. Founded by J.E.D. Shipp of Americus located at the junction of two major railroads – the Savannah, Americus and Montgomery Line. In November 1864, the town served as the temporary capital of Georgia. 2020 census stated there were 10,220 people with 3,874 households and 2,453 families residing in the city. Crisp County School District holds pre-school to twelfth grade with four elementary school, middle and high school. District has over 4,300 students and 266 teachers. A good school system is always a plus. Cordele is known for “Watermelon Capital of the World” and with the farmers market they have, I can sure see why. I contacted SERVPRO to help with what we thought was just water damage. SERVPRO sent a team the house right away. Blake and Holden identified the septic tank as the source of the water intrusion. They immediately went to work once the septic tank was serviced. They did a fantastic job drying and disinfecting the house, as well as removing all contaminated materials.
