Cairo is a town located in Grady County, conveniently situated on the Georgia-Florida state line. Cairo was first settled in the 1820’s but was incorporated as a city in 1906 & was named after Cairo, Egypt. This town is known as “Georgia’s Hospitality City” but is most known as the “Syrup City” as a result of its cane syrup making business that dominated much of the local economy throughout the 1900's. Cairo is the birthplace of many noteworthy people such as, Major League Baseball player, Jackie Robinson, Mikey Thomas of the American rock band, Starship and country music singer Daryle Singletary. Cairo is home of the annual Great Southern Antique Car Rally as well as an antique car museum. The history the town has from the time it was incorporated to now, is outstanding. Other attractions to this city are unique festivals, parks and recreation programs, a  movie theater built in 1935, a public library, a county museum and history center, downtown shopping, locally owned restaurants and more!
