Water and Fire Damage Restoration in Milton, Florida

Nestled in the heart of Santa Rosa County, Milton, Florida, is a city steeped in history and surrounded by the natural beauty of Northwest Florida’s Panhandle. As the county seat and one of the oldest communities in the state, Milton has played a vital role in shaping the cultural and economic landscape of the region. Conveniently located within the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Brent Metropolitan Statistical Area, Milton sits at the geographic center of Santa Rosa County — bordered by Pace to the west and Navarre to the south.

With a population of just over 10,000 residents, Milton combines small-town charm with the energy of a growing community. It’s a place where history meets modern living — home to landmarks like the West Florida Railroad Museum, the Imogene Theatre, and Naval Air Station Whiting Field, one of the U.S. Navy’s busiest training bases.

A City with Many Names — and a Rich History

The city’s story dates back to the early 1800s, and throughout its development, Milton was known by several colorful names. Early settlers and locals affectionately called it Hell-Town, referring to the muggy conditions, dense briars, mosquitoes, and snakes that once made the area difficult to inhabit. Other early names included Jernigan’s Landing, Scratch Ankle (a nod to the thorny riverbanks that scratched visitors’ legs), and Hard Scrabble.

Despite those rugged beginnings, Milton grew into a thriving center of commerce and transportation, thanks in part to its location along the Blackwater River and the expansion of the railroad. The West Florida Railroad Museum, housed in the original Louisville & Nashville Railroad Depot, pays tribute to this heritage — showcasing locomotives, railroad cars, and exhibits that celebrate Milton’s long-standing connection to regional trade and travel.

The city’s commitment to preserving its history is also reflected in the beautifully restored Imogene Theatre, which stands as a cultural landmark in downtown Milton. Originally built in 1912, the theater continues to host concerts, plays, and community events that bring residents together.

The Heart of Santa Rosa County

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Milton spans 4.6 square miles, of which 4.4 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles is water. Its location on the Blackwater River provides both scenic beauty and easy access to outdoor recreation. The surrounding area includes rivers, forests, and hiking trails, making Milton an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts.

The presence of Naval Air Station Whiting Field further underscores Milton’s importance to the region. Serving as one of the Navy’s primary pilot training facilities, the base brings a diverse population of service members and families to the area. This blend of deep-rooted locals and transient military residents gives Milton a unique sense of community — one that values resilience, preparedness, and care for its neighbors.

Those same values inspire SERVPRO of Northwest Escambia County, whose technicians take pride in serving Milton with dependable water damage restoration and fire damage restoration services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Protecting Milton’s Homes and Businesses

Living in a city surrounded by waterways and humid coastal air has its benefits — but it also means that properties in Milton face unique environmental challenges. The area’s climate can lead to storm-related flooding, plumbing leaks, or humidity-driven moisture issues that damage structures over time.

That’s why SERVPRO maintains a strong presence in Santa Rosa County, offering expert water damage restoration services designed to protect homes, businesses, and historic properties alike. From extraction and drying to full reconstruction, our goal is to restore not just structures but also the peace of mind of Milton’s residents.

When the dry season arrives, the threat shifts to fire damage — caused by electrical issues, kitchen accidents, or lightning strikes during summer storms. SERVPRO’s fire damage restoration crews are always on standby, equipped with the knowledge and technology to clean, repair, and deodorize properties after any fire event.

Comprehensive Water Damage Restoration

Whether it’s a flooded basement, leaking roof, or burst pipe, water damage can escalate quickly if not addressed immediately. SERVPRO’s certified professionals follow a precise process to ensure efficient recovery:

Our Water Damage Restoration Process Includes:

  • Inspection and Assessment: Identifying the source of water intrusion and evaluating the extent of damage.

  • Water Extraction: Removing standing water with high-powered pumps and truck-mounted vacuums.

  • Drying and Dehumidification: Utilizing industrial-grade air movers and desiccant dehumidifiers to stabilize humidity.

  • Moisture Detection: Using infrared cameras and meters to locate hidden moisture behind walls or under floors.

  • Cleaning and Sanitization: Applying EPA-approved disinfectants to prevent mold and odor issues.

  • Reconstruction: Rebuilding and refinishing affected areas to restore your property to preloss condition.

Because Milton’s landscape includes low-lying areas near the Blackwater River, heavy rain and tropical systems can quickly create localized flooding. Our water damage restoration team is strategically equipped to respond fast, preventing further structural damage and ensuring full recovery.

Expert Fire Damage Restoration

After a fire, the visible destruction is only part of the challenge. Smoke, soot, and lingering odors can affect indoor air quality and damage belongings if not handled properly. SERVPRO’s fire damage restoration technicians are trained in advanced cleaning methods and use state-of-the-art technology to bring properties back to pre-fire condition.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Process Includes:

  • Emergency Board-Up and Security: Protecting exposed areas to prevent further damage.

  • Soot and Smoke Removal: Cleaning all affected surfaces using HEPA-filtered vacuums and specialized detergents.

  • Odor Elimination: Neutralizing smoke odors with thermal fogging, air scrubbers, and ozone treatment.

  • Contents Cleaning and Restoration: Restoring furniture, documents, and valuables whenever possible.

  • Reconstruction Services: Completing repairs and rebuilds to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Whether restoring a historic downtown structure or a family home near Whiting Field, our fire damage restoration specialists bring expertise, empathy, and efficiency to every project.

What our
Milton customers are saying

ServPro and Dusten Callahan are the greatest! We had someone drive into our office and cause significant damage, and the same day. they were there working on it. They performed with professionalism and on time that is rarely seen in today’s world. Cannot say enough, good things about this business and Dusten Callahan, the Project manager. They worked weekends to make sure that we didn’t lose time for our business. On a scale of one star to five stars they are six stars. Greg Wood.

The two guys that came out were wonderful, jarred gave us a card. They did everything they could and found our problem. They will come back after we have new duct work put in. I would recommend both those guys.

Dustin Callahan and the entire ServPro crew were amazing to work with while restoring water damage in our garage caused by a broken pipe at our recently purchased vacation home. Since we couldn’t be there during the repairs, Dustin kept us informed every step of the way, providing regular updates and photos of the progress. The finished work looks even better than it did before the damage occurred. Knowing the job was handled professionally and done right gave us tremendous peace of mind. We highly recommend Dustin and the ServPro team!

Tammy Chubirko

If this ranked higher I would. These guys are the absolute standard for quality and character. I cannot say enough good things about Dusten, Gary, and the entire team. What started as a very complicated insurance claim became a long and frustrating process with failures of a previous contractor, multiple adjuster changes, delays, and constant moving pieces. Then these guys came in! Throughout it all, Dusten remained persistent, responsive, and completely committed to seeing the project through. He stayed on top of every detail, advocated for us when issues arose, and never let the challenges get in the way of delivering exceptional service. Gary and the crew were equally outstanding. The quality of their work was impeccable, and they consistently demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine pride in their craftsmanship. The finished product exceeded my expectations, and it is clear they care deeply about doing things the right way. Beyond the quality of the work, what stood out most was the character of the people involved. Every member of the team treated us with respect, communicated openly, and went above and beyond during an incredibly stressful situation. They turned what could have been an overwhelming experience into something manageable and ultimately successful. If you are looking for a contractor you can trust to deliver exceptional work while genuinely caring about their customers, I would recommend this team without hesitation. They are not only outstanding professionals but great human beings as well. (Attached Kitchen photo. But they did floors, bathroom, closets, all of it was phenomenal)

Jared Dorsey

If not for some minor issues, I would have rated them 5 stars. One of the drawers tracks wasn't attached, a couple of door handles are off center, and one of the door panels is cracked already ( though haven't addressed with them yet, to be fair). Multiple issues with the main island, but resolved. Dustin and Gary were easy to work with on most issues. Would recommend again though.

Ronald Kolodziejczyk

Dustin and his team were absolutely wonderful to work with. Considering the circumstances for needing them were so unexpected they certainly made the situation bearable. Would definitely recommend them!

Servpro Navarre was out here within 30 minutes of our emergency. They cleaned and got the equipment set up extremely quick and break down was even faster. It was like they were never even here, which is a good thing in this industry in my opinion!

Gavin Wehby

We had a mold issue and needed to replace our kitchen cabinets, we decided to expand it into a remodel. The clean up was efficient and professional. Dusten and his crew at Carter Restoration of Escambia Country did the remodel portion. Dusten did an EXCELLENT job working with us and designed our kitchen to look better than we could have imagined. Thank you to Dusten and Gary and all for doing such an amazing job for us!

Ralinds L

Carter’s Reconstruction Company recently completed the reconstruction of our home after water damage, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. The success of this project is due in large part to our outstanding project manager, Dusten. Without his coordination, concern, and exceptional skill, none of this would have been possible. From start to finish, Dusten was fully engaged. His attention to detail, commitment to timelines and schedules, and ability to keep everyone on track were remarkable. He was always accessible and responsive, answering every question and providing updates before we even needed to ask. His suggestions and recommendations on products and finishes were thoughtful and practical, and when we requested changes or specific materials, he was flexible and willing to pivot without hesitation. Every deadline was met—and the project was even completed ahead of schedule—thanks to his expertise and leadership. Dusten led his team with professionalism, kindness, and integrity. His leadership set the tone for the entire project — every contractor and crew member reflected his same level of excellence. The plumbers, electricians, countertop installers, demolition specialists and debris removal he coordinated were all top-notch, professional, and personable. Because of Dusten’s dedication and the team’s hard work, our home not only looks beautiful but feels restored. We are completely satisfied with every aspect of the process and the final results. If we ever face such a challenge again, Dusten and his team would be our only choice and first call. We are deeply grateful for his care, expertise, and commitment to excellence.
