Live Oak is located in northern Florida. Live Oak came to exist around 1861. It is the county seat of Suwannee county. US Highway 90 and US Highway 129 runs through the center of downtown. Although it is a smaller airport, the Suwannee County Airport is located in Live Oak.
Live Oak has always been known for its gorgeous live oak trees. This is where the name originated. The town was built along the Pensacola and Georgia Railroad. The railroad depot was built near one said live oak tree. The railroad was instrumental for parts of north Florida during the Civil War. The Georgia railroad which ran north to south was devised by the Confederacy. This helped in the aid of supplies.
Back in 1905 Live Oak was the largest inland cities in Florida. The area would draw a lot of visitors. The sulphur water springs were very popular at one time. The area was also popular place for boating and hunting. The first World War was damaging to the growth of the city. Also, when teh massive population growth started in south Florida.
The Suwannee River is a very important part of Suwannee county. It flows down and releases into the Gulf of Mexico. The Suwannee River formed the boundary between the Timucuan Indians on the east and the Apalachee Indians on the west side of the river. Stephen Foster made the river famous with his song "Old Folks at Home". Also, known as Swanee River. Ever since 1935 it has been the official song of Florida.
Parts of Live Oak and Suwannee county has been known to flooding. Especially, during Hurricane Dora and most recently Tropical Storm Debby. Under any circumstance SERVPRO is always ready to help. Christmas Eve...... Water Everywhere! You had Ronnie, Keith, Jonathon and Barbara onsite within 2 hours! It took all night & Christmas Day but your staff put our problem in front of their own families! That says a lot of how amazing this SERVPRO is.
