Approximately, located about 20 miles of Lake City is Fort White. Fort White is located in Columbia County. Fort White actually originated in 1837 as the second Seminole War Fort. In 1915, the Old Fort White School was built. This building and area now is referred to as Fort White Public School Historic District. When you think of Fort White, you have to think about Ichetucknee Springs. The Ichetucknee River is crystal clear and 72 degrees year round. Before 1970, it was a hidden hideaway. At this point, the Loncala Phosphate Corporation sold the springs and river to the state of Florida. An actual road was built for access. During the summer there are thousands of people floating in a tube down the river daily.
In 1884, Fort White was incorporated. A railroad was constructed in 1888. This lead to growth along with other industries. At this time the economy relied on phosphate mining, turpentine and agriculture. At one time the population grew to close to 2,000. But, due to some hard northern Florida winters it destroyed most of the agriculture economy. The phosphate deposits depleted around 1910. This stopped the mining. The the 1970's the population actually was down to 365. Still in 2020 the population was only 618. Most people commute to nearby cities for employment.
Well, as we can see Fort White has a rich history. From the Seminole War Fort to the Ichetucknee Springs. SERVPRO also has a long rich history. Christmas Eve...... Water Everywhere! You had Ronnie, Keith, Jonathon and Barbara onsite within 2 hours! It took all night & Christmas Day but your staff put our problem in front of their own families! That says a lot of how amazing this SERVPRO is.
