DeBary is named after its first official citizen-- Frederick DeBary. DeBary was a man from New York City and came to Florida to build a house, an orange grove, and a city.

DeBary Hall was DeBary's mansion that included one of the first swimming pools in the entire state, fed by a spring. It was grand for its time and had many famous visitors such as Ulysses S. Grant and Grover Cleveland.
