Greeley Cleanup and Restoration

Situated a short 49 miles form north-northeast of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver, nestled on the Front Range is Greeley.  Greeley is the tenth most populous city in Colorado and the most populous municipality of Weld County, Colorado.  Greeley began as the Union Colony of Colorado and was founded in 1869 by Nathan C. Meeker, as an experimental utopian farming community “based on temperance, religion, agriculture, education and family values.”

The 1950s were boom years in Greeley, with the establishment of numerous businesses.  Cattle feeding became a key industry and steaks from Greeley were the specialty of the house in many New York restaurants in the mid-1900s.

Greeley was built on farming and agriculture; however, was home to KFKA one of the first radio stations to broadcast in the U.S.  Two POW camps were housed locally in 1943 during World War II.  One camp was for German POWs and the other was for Italian POWs.  Upon the POWs release many of the POWs chose to stay and reside in Greeley due to the way they were treated in Greeley’s POWs camps.
