Nortonville, CA is a small ghost town in the California desert. It is home to about 1,000 people and is located just north of Barstow on Interstate 40. The town was founded in 1883 as a mining community by three brothers who came from New York City. The name for their new town was taken from "The Norton Family" which owned several large parcels of land nearby.

Nortonville Pass is an important feature of the area because it connects the Mojave Desert with the San Gabriel Mountains and San Bernardino Valley. It has been used by Native Americans for thousands of years, including during the Mojave Trail trade route between Mexico and points north.

The Manhattan Canyon Trail runs through Nortonville and connects to other trails in nearby areas such as Red Rock Canyon State Park and Joshua Tree National Park. It goes through some beautiful desert landscapes that are great for hiking or biking during warmer months.
