The Island of Ketron is a very private and quiet island, a whole 221-acres with a population of 17. Tucked away in the Southern Puget sound just off the shoreline of Steilacoom, Ketron Island offers privacy and solitude to its residents.   It has a beautiful view of the water and is isolated from the everyday hustle and bustle of the mainland just across the water. The island was supposed to be named William Kittson of the Hudson’s Bay Company, who supervised the construction of Fort Nisqually in 1833, according to the book Washington State Place Names. The name was bungled while transcribed to a map, giving the island its name, we know today. The Pierce County Ferry comes 4x a day, however many of the residents use their own boats to reach the mainland in Steilacoom. Even in an island as secluded and peaceful as Ketron unfortunate events like Water and Fire damage can still happen.
