Forest is a suburban part of metropolitan Lynchburg, containing many subdivided properties carved from and around surrounding farms and woodlands. The Ivy Hill community is the largest development and is built around the Ivy Hill Golf Course. The community has been experiencing rapid growth and development over the past 10 years, especially after Route 221/Forest Road was widened to 4 lanes in 2009.
Poplar Forest is a plantation and plantation house in Forest, Bedford County, Virginia. Thomas Jefferson designed the plantation and used the property as a private retreat and a revenue-generating plantation. Jefferson inherited the property in 1773 and began designing and working on the plantation in 1806.
Small city - West-central Virginia along James River, 50 miles east of Roanoke. September, June and May are the most pleasant months in Forest, while January and February are the least comfortable months.
Check out the only producer-only market in the region. Lovely fresh local produce, eggs, meats, crafts and more. Indoor market in the winter months. The spring-fall market is outdoors and wends nicely down the walkway behind the Forest Library.
