Nestled in Chesterfield County, just south of the City of Richmond, sits the small town of Bon Air. Originally, Bon Air was intended as a resort getaway, the name means “Good Air”, a takeaway from its intent to provide relief to those who visited from the industrial areas of Richmond City’s industrial district. A central portion of Bon Air has been designated as a National Historic District with many structures of Victorian design from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While most of the historic properties are privately owned Bon Air celebrates its “resort era” with a “Victorian Days” community parade and celebration, and the Don Air Historical Society occasionally hosts tours of some of the resort-era homes.
A quiet suburb, Bon Air often finds itself as the destination for families looking to settle down and escape the hustle and bustle of the city proper, without losing access to all the activities Richmond has to offer.
