Mountain Peak, Texas is a little historic gem, set in the countryside of Northwestern Ellis County, on Farm Road 875 five miles Northwest of Waxahachie, where SERVPRO operates it local restoration service. Mountain Peak was originally settled in the mid 1870’s under the name of Singleton’s. A Post Office branch opened in 1878 and operated for a short while under that name before the town decided to rename the community to Mountain Peak. Like many small Texas farming communities in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, Mountain Peak operated a church, school, cotton gin, and a few small merchant businesses. The city’s population gradually declined over the years, reaching its current population of about 20 in the 1980’s, as the younger generation migrated to surrounding metropolitan areas in search of better opportunities.

Mountain Peak still serves as a community center to local farmers in the area. These tiny remnants of once-thriving farming communities can be found throughout the sprawling, rough Texas terrain. Their lively schoolhouses now serving as community meeting houses where the few residents who remain play dominoes or listen to old-time breakdown music provided by their local musicians.
