The History of Gonzales, TX
Gonzales is one of the first known Anglo-American settlements in the entire state. Green DeWitt established the original colony, and he named it after Rafael Gonzales, the governor of Coahuila Y Tejas.
The town population was impacted several times through various battles. It has grown somewhat steadily since the late 1800s. Gonzales is the location of the first battle of the Texas Revolution.
