History of Dickinson, TX
Dickinson, Texas is a tract of land in the Houston--The Woodlands--Sugar Land metropolitan area. The area was named after John Dickinson who had been granted the land in 1824. Over the years, the area grew from the railroad and oil industry booms.
In the 1920s, Dickinson became a tourist destination when several gambling venues popped up in the city.
In more recent history, Dickinson was devastated by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. A large majority of the city was flooded during the storm and half of it was destroyed by flooding.
