Corpus Christi Cleanup and Restoration

Corpus Christi is a coastal city in South Texas that borders the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay.  It is the eighth-largest city in Texas with just under half a million residents.  Its name means “Body of Christ” in Latin.  The name was given to the settlement by Alonso Alvarez de Pineda, a Spanish explorer, that discovered the area in 1519.

The first known permanent settlement of Corpus Christi was established in 1839 by Colonel Henry Lawrence Kinney and was known as Kinney’s Trading Post or Kinney’s Ranch.  It was a  small trading post that sold supplies to a Mexican revolutionary army that was camped around 25 miles away.  In July of 1845, U.S. Troops commanded by General Zachary Taylor set up camp there in preparation for war with Mexico, where they remained until March of 1846.  A year later the area was officially named Corpus Christi and was incorporated on September 9th, 1852.

The city has very hot and humid summers, with very short, mild winters.  During the months of November through February, the weather is the coolest with temperatures rarely dropping below 50 degrees.  The Summer months are a whole different story with the record high being 109F and the average at 97F.  

Corpus Christi is right along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, which is in a prime location for hurricanes.  Once they reach the Gulf of Mexico, they can move east towards Florida, north towards Louisiana and Mississippi, or west towards Texas.  In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey hit the Corpus Christi area causing storm, rain and other water damage as well as the damage created by electrical fires.  A total of 68 lives were lost, the highest number of storm-related deaths in almost 100 years.  Fire damage and water damage restoration are issues that the Corpus Christi community has dealt with for a very long time.
