Settled in the early 1800s and first known as “Pine Top”, then renamed “Stapleton” after the Staples family set up the towns first post office in the mid-1800s, the name Sunbright was placed in effect after the Stapleton depot was given the name when the Cincinnati Southern railroad was built in the area in 1879. Due to the discovery of a nearby oilfield, the town thrived as an oil shipping hub with the help of the local railroad. The area has a strong history of German and Swiss settlers. These people farmed the rocky land the best they could. Not being able to farm large areas of land made settlement and development very slow. Sunbright is home to amazing views and friendly residents.
