Puryear is a small city in Henry County, Tennessee, located in the northwestern corner of the state near the Kentucky border. Positioned along U.S. Highway 641, Puryear offers a quiet rural lifestyle with convenient access to nearby Paris, Tennessee, and Murray, Kentucky.
History
Originally known as Littleton, the community was named after James T. Littleton, an early landowner who donated land for the railroad. When the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway assumed control of the line, the town's name was changed to Puryear to avoid confusion with other communities of the same name. The city was officially incorporated in 1909.
