History
New Johnsonville was established after the original town of Johnsonville was flooded during the creation of Kentucky Reservoir following the construction of Kentucky Dam in 1944. Many residents relocated to the present-day site, and the city was officially incorporated in 1949. The original Johnsonville was also the site of the Battle of Johnsonville, a Civil War battle fought in 1864.
