Marlow was settled by white colonists after being selected as the northern seat of justice for Anderson County. In 1825, it was named for William Marlow who was a member of the state legislature and later became governor of Tennessee. Marlow has the beautiful Blackwater Creek, Ferncliff Forest State Natural Area and many historic downtown buildings. The neighborhood of Marlow is just minutes from the city and only 20 minutes from the mountains. This area is also the home of the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department. It serves a 65-square-mile area with nearly 10,000 residents outside the Oliver Springs, Clinton, and Oak Ridge city limits.
