Adjacent to the Norfolk Southern Railway in Morgan County, Tennessee is the town of Lancing. Originally called Kismet when it was settled in the 1860s, the town was officially given the name of Lancing when the Cincinnati Southern Railway built a rail line through the area and named the Kismet Rail Station Lancing. In 1894 the post office applied the name to the whole community. The Obed River runs near Lancing. The area around this river has been designated as an International Dark Sky Park.
