Fernvale is a small town in Tennessee that has a history dating back to 1819 when the area was settled by Samuel and Ollie Jones Smith along the South Harpeth River near the sulphur springs. In 1879, John B. McEwen purchased Smith's Springs, renamed it Fernvale, and developed a popular summer resort. In 1904, the resort was bought by railroad executive William Pepper Bruce and operated as a hotel until it burned down in 1910. Fernvale Methodist Church, which was built in 1885, and Fernvale Church of Christ, which was built in 1950, are other historical buildings in the area. There is also a Fernvale marker located on Old Harding Road, which is listed on the Williamson County Historical Commission and highlights the town's history. He took responsibility and his colleagues were very thorough in accomplishing the task of removing everything that was damaged and getting everything dried out and ready for repairs and rebuild.
