In a remote section of the Cumberland Plateau, you will find the community of Deer Lodge. Located in Western Morgan County, it was originally situated around a 300-acre piece of land that belonged to the Davidson family. It has a rich English history. It was established as a health resort by Abner Ross in the 1880s. There is a memorial center for Mr. Ross located in the town. By the close of the nineteenth century Deer Lodge had two hotels, a planing mill, a band, a theater, and a newspaper. The Deer Lodge Congregational church built in 1889 still stands as a reminder of the community’s’ beginnings.
