Hermosa, South Dakota is a growing community at the eastern gateway to the Black Hills that was once dubbed the “Hub to History and Adventure” due to its central location to many historical and magnificent sites in the area.  Hermosa got its start as it was developed by the Fremont, Elkhorn, and Missouri Valley Railroad which was then acquired by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway which platted the town in 1886.  Due to tin being mined nearby and Cattle ranching in the area, the town thrived with travelers, tradesmen, rail workers, and even hosting Mt Rushmore sculpturer Gutzon Borglum many times as he lived on a ranch just outside the town.
