The climate of Brandon is similar to surrounding towns in that it typically sees hot, humid summers, and dry, cold winters. This was not the case in 2019. 2019 saw Brandon receive abnormal rainfall totals in both the early spring and late summer. These rains, combined with other factors, caused the Big Sioux River to flood and the Big Sioux Recreation Area was heavily damaged and submerged.
