Ladson is a small town founded in 1905 located in the middle of the three major counties that merge within the Charleston Metro area. Ladson was named after the Ladson family, one of the oldest planter and merchant families to settle the Charleston area. James Ladson was one of the family members that rose to prominence as lieutenant governor of South Carolina and was integral in the launch of the American Civil War. The family was among the first handful of English settlers to colonize the Carolinas in the 1670s. The family had the town named after it and also Ladson Street and the Ladson House in Charleston. Over time Ladson became a suburb for its residents and is home to some great playgrounds and parks. Gahagan park and Azalea park are two places for Ladson residents to go and enjoy with great walking paths and green space for children to play. The town is also home to the Coastal Carolina Flea Market and their annual Fair which has been going on since 1957 and providing the entire area with great fun and amusement with its rides and attractions.
