Goose Creek is a small South Carolina town that was established in 1961 but has a long history that goes back centuries.  By the 1670s the small native American tribe Etiwan moved to the area to seek protection amongst the early colonists along the tributary of the Cooper River known as Goose Creek.   These early colonists were known as the "Goose Creek men" and became important early settlers of the area and leaders of the Indian tribe.  Today, Goose Creek still takes advantage of its placement along the Cooper River and is home to the Navy Weapon Station and a military complex which oversees the training of military personnel.  It once played a key part during the Cold War when the United States based a large contingency of naval warcraft of over 80 ships and submarines in Goose Creek.  The Weapons Station provided refueling and loadouts the Atlantic Fleet's nuclear ballistic missile submarines.  The Weapons Station in Goose Creek is still active today playing a crucial role for Join Base Charleston which provides service for about 80,000 servicemen and women in the military.
