In 1871, Isaac Hinckley founded Ridley Park. Hinckley was the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad president. Just as the Pennsylvania Railroad had purchased farmland was expanding through the area, Hinckley desired to do the same with his railway. He moved further south into the current area of Ridley Park.

Ridley Park is home of the Chester Pike, which is believed to have been one of the original footpaths of the Lenni Lenape. It was later realigned and widened by William Penn. It was known as the “Queens Highway”.  It was one of the regions first roads; it goes from Chester to Darby.  Ridley Park is also the home of one of the first schools in Delaware County. It was also once known as a summer resort in the 19^th and 20^th Centuries. The community takes up 691.2 acres, of which 6.4 acres are water, which is Ridley Lake and Little Crum Creek. The area is home to the CH-47 Chinook helicopter division of The Boeing Company.
