Iselin, Pennsylvania was founded in 1922 by Col. Frank A. Vanderlip and George W. Merriam, who purchased approximately 600 acres of land from The Gimbel Brothers Company (which had bought the land from William H. Gimbel). The first house in Iselin was on Oak Tree place in 1920. In 1922, the first post office and general store were built, as well as a school. After being incorporated as a borough in 1926 by an act of the State Assembly, Iselin added housing developments, community groups and recreational facilities to the community throughout its history.
