Vernonia is located along the Nehalem River towards the northwest corner of Oregon. Vernonia gained its name from one of the original settlers to the area, Ozias Cherrington. Cherrington wanted to name the city after his adopted daughter – Vernona. However, during the incorporation process an “i” was inserted into the name becoming Vernonia.
