At the heart of Green Country, nestled along the verdant banks of the Grand River, lies the picturesque town of Strang, Oklahoma. With a rich history dating back to its founding in 1883, Strang has grown into a close-knit community that beautifully blends tradition and modernity.
Strang was surveyed in 1913 by the Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway (later the Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway), who were building tracks towards Wagoner. A post office was also established in 1913, replacing the nearby Lynch post office, and the town was incorporated in 1921. It was named for Clarita Strang Kenefic, wife of railroad developer William Kenefic.
According to the United States Senses Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), all land.
Strang has water on three sides. The Grand River is north of town and curves to the west. South of Strang, Spavinaw Creek flows into Grand River. Ferryboats crossed the Grand River until 1921, when a bridge was built west of town. In 2002 Strang identified its original streets with signs. The community supported a post office, a convenience store, a fire department, a community center, a machine shop, and a church.
