The Mid-America Industrial Park is Oklahoma's largest industrial park and located just 4 miles from Chouteau city limits. Over 80 firms are located within the industrial park including operations of seven Fortune 500 companies, such as Google, DuPont and Nordam. The industrial park provides a massive amount of jobs for the area and has helped attract a number of restaurants and hotels to serve residents, workers and visitors to the industrial park.

Chouteau is a gateway to the eastern Oklahoma lake and river area, featuring Chouteau Bend on Grand River, Fort Gibson Lake, Upper, and Lower Spavinaw Lakes, the Grand Lake of the Cherokees (Grand Lake), and the Lake Hudson Recreational Area.
The Chouteau rural area is home to the largest Amish community in Oklahoma and a variety of Amish owned restaurants, bakeries, furniture and other stores are located in town. Thousands of tourists visit Chouteau each year to experience this unique and friendly culture, eat at the Amish restaurants and shop various Amish goods and furniture available. Every day, you will find Amish driving their tractors on the road on their way to work or going about their day-to-day activities. On Sundays and other special occasions, you will see Amish black buggies pulled by horses.
