Long-time Hudson residents may recall Darrowville, a once-thriving farm community between Stow and Hudson on Ohio Route 91, but many are unaware of its existence. Primarily located in Hudson Township, with parts extending into Stow, Darrowville was a significant agricultural hub known for its progressive farmers and the establishment of the Darrow Street Grange in 1874. The community, which rivaled Hudson Village in age, was founded by Joseph Darrow, a member of David Hudson’s 1799 surveying party. Although Darrowville ceased to exist in 1958, its legacy endures through landmarks like Maple Lawn Cemetery and the still-active Grange.

The demise of Darrowville began with the closure of its post office in 1958. The area was further changed when Stow Township became the City of Stow in 1960, assimilating part of Darrowville. The construction of General Motors' Terex Plant and the widening of Ohio Route 91 in the late 1950s destroyed key landmarks, altered the character of the community, and led to commercial development. Once thriving with farms like Darrow Popcorn Farm and various turkey farms, Darrowville now exists only as a memory, with locals still referring to the area as "Darrowville."

The transformation of Darrowville serves as a reminder that communities can change rapidly and unexpectedly.
