Hartington is a city in Cedar County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. Hartington was platted in 1883, as a water stop on the railroad. A water stop on a railroad is a place where the steam trains stop to replenish water. Cedar County can claim a distant link to British royalty, Hartington received its name as a tribute to Lord Hartington, a Briton that had visited the United States about the time the town sited. Hartington is the county seat of Cedar County Nebraska. The Courthouse was built in 1891. The history of this area in Northeast Nebraska can be traced back to the 1650s when the Omaha Indians lived along the Bow Creek area. Several Indian villages were located in the region. For the next 90 years this area that borders the Missouri River on the north was home to the Omaha, Ponca and Sioux tribes. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 opened the territory to white settlers for the first time. The boundaries of the county, which was named as such because of the number of cedar trees that were growing in the area. Once covered by prairies grass, the county today is known for its farming and livestock production. For the 2023 school year, there are 2 public schools serving 367 students in Hartington, and there are 3 private schools, serving 455 private students. There are 4 churches in Hartington. Hartington is about a 50-minute drive Northeast of Norfolk NE or about a 30-minute drive Southeast of Yankton South Dakota. You will find Hartington along Hwy 84 and Hwy 57

I just wanted to leave a good review for these guys. We came home from a vacation and our basement was flooded. We called them to come suck up the water. We were told we would get a phone call letting us know that someone would come tonight, but we never received one, so we ended up calling someone local. Lo and behold they ended up showing up while the other place was here. We felt so bad that they drove 45 minutes just to have to turn around and drive back. Even though I am sure they were frustrated and upset they were very kind and even offered their services in the future. We truly feel so horrible. There was just some miscommunication. If you read this guys we are so sorry!
