Creighton Cleanup and Restoration

The City of Creighton developed as a result of the “Bruce Colony” settlement in 1871. A charter was obtained in 1874 to plat the north side of what is now our mile-long Main Street. S At the 2010 census, there were 1,154 people living in the city.  This climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. The city of Creighton is located in Knox County, and is known as 12 county for the Nebraska license plate number. Creighton Nebraska is located along Hwy 59. There are 2 Public Schools in Creighton Nebraska, Pre-K School and the Creighton Public School that is 1st – 12th grades, serving 274 students in 2023. According to former Creighton lifeguards Sandy Johnson, BerryPeppers were first created at the Creighton swimming pool in 1965 and perfected in 1966. The popular frozen drink came about as the result of the combined efforts of the pool staff. Creighton’s annual celebration, BerryPepper Days, is held on the 3rd full weekend in June each summer. Visitors come to town for the celebration take part in a kiddie parade, road rally, family barbecue in the park, fly-in breakfast, VFW breakfast and the Legion chicken feed, Sunday afternoon parade, and a baseball tournament. It’s considered one of Creighton’s pride and joys… This 3 day celebration dedicated to this frozen treat. A Dr.Pepper and strawberry soda fusion…one bite and you’re practically hooked. The local concession stand sold drinks that included Dr. Pepper and different flavored pop. The frozen drink came about as the result of lifeguards and kids mixing a combination of different sodas. And you can’t help but wonder, what makes this stuff so popular that despite the cold and rain, people are willing to buy not just one, but even boxes of this frozen treat. “They’re amazing…they taste great,” says one local Creighton resident. Eat it with a spoon and the locals will be sure to let you know that you’re doing it all wrong. The proper way to eat a BerryPepper is to first warm it up. After warming it up, you squeeze the frozen treat out of the cup. Then, you invert it and enjoy.
