Hernando is a city in, and the county seat of, DeSoto County. It is located in the northwestern border of Mississippi in a county that touches the Mississippi River and is the second-most-populous county in the Memphis metropolitan area, which include counties in Tennessee and Mississippi.
When the French and Spanish colonists came to this area, they found that the Chickasaw people had long inhabited the land. At this time the French had already developed colonial settlements along the Gulf Coast, to the north in the middle Mississippi River in what was called the Illinois country, and New France, which has become modern-day Quebec in Canada. The French and French Canadians had a wide trading network with various tribes all along the river.
This part of the country has hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. Hernando has had to deal with its share of tornadoes and has had 109 of them since 1950. Two of these tornadoes happened on the same day in December 2015, killing a total of 11 people and injuring over 60 residents. The area sustained massive wind and rain damage and had a long recovery process. Due to the hot and humid climate, this area doesn’t have to deal with fire damage due to wildfire or brushfire.

I can't say enough about SERVPRO of Desoto, Tate, & Tunica Counties!! They were amazing during our storm mishap. We lost power after the tree fell on our main power source to the house. SERVPRO had someone there to assess within the hour AND had us repaired and power within 24 hours!! GREAT JOB GUYS!
