Located on the banks of Lake Taneycomo the Ozark Mountains, Rockaway Beach is known as one of the first resort towns west of the Mississippi River, founded by Willard Merriam as a summer resort it was originally around 60 acres of land in Taney County, tourist made their way to the town via the Missouri Pacific Railroad to Branson or Hollister and then down the lake to Rockaway Beach by boat.  In the late 1950s with the construction of Tablerock Dam the water temperature plunged to 48 degrees, and of course losing the swimmers and water skiers. Rockaway Beach experienced new life in finding that the icy water of Lake Taneycomo created one of the top fishing lakes in the country.

This city known as, “The shining star on Taneycomo”, with beautiful expansive views and so much natural beauty, also experiences all four seasons.
