Marshfield, the county seat of Webster County was settled during the 1830’s, with the city plated out in 1856.  The Frisco Railroad was built through town in 1872 and stimulated economic growth as a producer of livestock, poultry, and dairy products. One of our most famous citizens is Astronomer Edwin P. Hubble and invented the Hubble Telescope a replica of the famous telescope sits on the courthouse lawn in his honor. Marshfield is also known for its Independence Day celebration and parade, beginning in 1879 it is the oldest continuing parade and celebration west of the Mississippi River.
