The town of Gallatin is a city in Daviess County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2021 census. It is the county seat of Daviess County. Gallatin Conservation Area is in Daviess County, five miles south of the town on Highway 13 and a half mile east on Route M. Approximately 40 percent of the area consists of timber, brushy draws and fencerows. A 10-acre marsh is located in the north part of the area.
Because of its size and diversity, their Conservation Area is managed for a wide range of game and non-game wildlife species. The area is available to the public for a variety of outdoor activities. Management of the area includes several things from planting food plots, haying, and controlled burning, in addition to the development of wildlife habitat by tree, shrub, and grass plantings. There are several things to do in this community and the town is located by several other small towns offering family fun. The Daviess County Rotary Jail and Sheriff's Residence, The A. Taylor Ray House and the Daviess County courthouse are listed on the National Registry of historical places. This town is home to the beautiful Lake Viking opened in which opened in 1967 it is known as a private 630-acre man-made lake with great fishing, beautiful wildlife,  and several water activities such as skiing, boating and swimming. It's a great place to live or visit! Lake Viking is just an hour northeast of Kansas City and currently has a camp ground that hosts lake owners year around. February 3rd, 2026 there was a 5 alarm fire in Cameron MO as downtown buildings burned to the ground. Buildings over 100 years old received smoke and water damage as they were connected to the burned buildings.
