Forsyth was founded in 1838, an important river town in the Ozarks even before the Civil War, it was the head of navigation for steamboats on the White River.  During the Civil War both Rebel and Federal Forces occupied the town.  In 1913 Powersite dam was completed and behind it formed Lake Taneycomo.  In 1950 the entire town had to be moved to the bluffs overlooking the White River, Bull Shoals Lake, a result of the new Bull Shoals dam flooded the area. Residents and visitors enjoy the natural beauty of the Ozarks, fishing, hiking the Empire Park Trail that follows Bull Shoals Lake from Shadowrock Park to Empire Park at Powersite Dam, many boating activities on Lake Taneycomo and Bull Shoals or take a scenic drive.
