Incorporated in 1986 and located conveniently just 14 miles southwest of Springfield, between Billings and Nixa on Highway 14 and just south of Republic on P Highway. Clever got its name in a unique way, when the first choice of name was rejected by the Federal government, locals leaders surveyed a few residents and one suggested “Clever” because the young community’s residents were friendly and wise.
