Highland MI, officially known as Charter Township of Highland, is located in west Oakland County. Highland Township was founded in 1835 by pioneer families. A large factor in the founding of Highland was the railroad, it allowed for lumber to be imported quickly and gave opportunities for the early businesses of the township to be exported easily. Highland is known for it’s extensive equestrian heritage, the residents of Highland have worked tirelessly to preserve that heritage and in 2006 were officially recognized by the state government as Michigan’s first equestrian community.

Highland is also home to a large all sports lake, Duck Lake. A fun fact about Duck Lake is it is broken up into two connecting sections, “Big Duck” & “Little Duck”. Duck Lake is a private lake, offering access with multiple boat launches to it’s residents. Joe Kocur, former Red Wings player lives in Highland and hosts his charity softball event for his charity “The Joe Kocur Foundation for Children” in Highland yearly. A large staple of Highland is the restaurant “The Highland House” it has been family owned since 1976. It offers a variety of Italian dishes with an upbeat atmosphere.
