Baldwin Cleanup and Restoration

Baldwin is the largest city in the primarily rural Lake County. Home to less than 1,000 permanent residents, this area has many tourist attractions and boasts countless seasonal homes. The “Blessing of the Bike” weekend draws thousands of bikers to the area in the spring and they continue visiting all summer. Trout fishing on the Baldwin river and the Pere Marquette river system are also a huge draw to the Baldwin community with the Baldwin “Troutarama” Festival in July a huge boost to local tourism.  The world's largest trout statue (25 feet tall) is also a source of pride for local residents. Another draw to the area is the Shrine of the Pines crucifix located in Lake County.

Baldwin has a rich history with African American culture. For much of the early 20th century, African American music, theater, dance, and the arts flourished in Idle Wild, a community 3 miles east of Baldwin. Because the minorities were welcomed in this area and felt safe, they flocked to visit and buy property. Even today, the vast majority of the Lake County residents are seasonal with many cabins and homes on the rivers and lakes which cover the county.
