History of Monticello
The history of Monticello, Louisiana is a fascinating story of the people who have lived and succeeded in this small town. In the 1700s and 1800s, the land that would become Monticello was inhabited by Native Americans. The U.S. government originally surveyed this region as part of an effort to unite the nation after the Revolutionary War when the land was open for settlement. The early settlers included French Canadians, Germans, Irish and Italians. Monticello was officially incorporated as a town in January 1798.
