History of the Village of Folsom
In the 1880 census, the area now known as the Village of Folsom was occupied by several families with most adults listed as farmers or housewives. The Village of Folsom was officially established at the Alma Post Office in 1904 by brothers George M. Fendlason and Hines Norman. George named the village after President Grover Cleveland’s wife Francis Folsom. However, the Village of Folsom wasn’t incorporated into the State of Louisiana until March 12, 1915. At the time of incorporation, the Village of Folsom was a notable logging and farming community.

The Village of Folsom is still one of the smallest communities within St. Tammany Parish. The latest census recorded less than one thousand residents. This quaint, rural village is presently known for its plant nurseries, horse farms, and exotic animal farms. The Village of Folsom frequently welcomes visitors to patron the village farmers' market, local shops, country restaurants, and most notably to visit Global Wildlife, one of the largest free-roaming wildlife preserves in the country.
