Elmwood is a suburb of the Metairie area in northern Jefferson Parish. It is bordered to the north by Metairie, to the east by Jefferson, to the west by Harahan, and to the south by the Mississippi River. The Huey P. Long bridge connects Elmwood to the Westbank area by crossing the Mississippi River.
