Even without commercial flights, University Airport in West Lafayette is the second busiest airport in the State. The high number of privately-owned airplanes using the terminal and the Aviation School’s students create significant air traffic. This airport was the first owned by a university in the nation, opening in 1930. Commercial flights used the terminal until 2014.

Amelia Earhart’s visiting faculty position at Purdue University, where she was an advisor in the aeronautics department and a counselor to women students.
