Sherman is a village in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Springfield, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Rail Golf Course, an 18-hole golf course and home of the LPGA State Farm Rail Classic from 1976 to 2006. Sherman Village Park, a 10-acre park located on Sherman's south side. The park includes an amphitheater, pavilions, a pond, and a 1-mile walking/cycling trail. The Cartoon Network animated series Sym-Bionic Titan takes place in Sherman.
The village was hit by a high end EF-2 tornado in the March 31st outbreak. In 1858, four men, Virgil Hickox, Cornelius Flagg, Joseph Ledlie and David Sherman bought, surveyed and platted what is now called Sherman. The town's name was a result of the luck of the draw.
